Project Overview
In an era defined by digital transformation and innovative financial solutions, Banco Bradesco embarked on a groundbreaking project to integrate blockchain technology within its banking services. This initiative was designed to address evolving consumer demands for security and efficiency and align with Brazil’s progressive regulatory environment. The project, developed under Bradesco's InovaBRA program, which fosters innovative fintech solutions. Over the course of four months of rigorous research, our team developed three distinct digital finance prototypes, each designed with specific compliance and consumer journey considerations in mind.
My Contributions
As an integral member of the consulting team, I led efforts to conceptualize and develop three blockchain-enabled financial prototypes, encompassing nine meticulously crafted user journeys. These prototypes advanced innovative methods for mobile payments, secure money transfers, and customer-friendly financial interactions. My contributions involved conducting comprehensive market research, which informed the application's design and functionality against the backdrop of regulatory demands. Our team’s prototypes were guided by user-centric design, regulatory compliance, and technological feasibility.
Regulatory Context

Brazil’s evolving regulatory landscape emphasizes a balanced approach to embracing financial innovation while ensuring consumer protection. With guidance from the Central Bank of Brazil and the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), the country has promoted regulatory sandboxes and anti-money laundering compliance for cryptocurrency operations. This supportive environment underscores Bradesco’s initiative to explore blockchain applications, exemplifying the bank's commitment to aligning with national regulatory priorities.

The Research

To holistically inform our prototype development, our team meticulously conducted extensive user research, breaking into specialized sub-teams to tackle different dimensions of analysis. We delved into Brazil's regulatory landscape to ensure our solutions met national compliance requirements, while another team explored the cultural nuances of Brazilian consumers, gaining crucial insights into the banking behaviors and preferences of Banco Bradesco's clientele. We also evaluated prior contributions from InovaBRA and its pilot programs, identifying successful integrations that could inform our current web3 innovations. Additionally, we conducted investigative research into emerging web3 startups, accelerators, and successful ventures globally, pinpointing trends and technologies that could be seamlessly integrated into our prototypes. This multifaceted research approach ensured that the prototypes were both culturally resonant and technologically advanced, aligning with Bradesco's vision for a future-ready financial ecosystem.
Outcomes and Insights

The project’s success lies not only in its alignment with Brazil’s regulatory framework but also in Bradesco's ability to place these solutions on a pilot trajectory, supporting financial inclusion and technological advancement across its network. These prototypes highlighted the collaborative synergy between established banking institutions and emerging fintech ventures, setting the stage for real-world application and further integration into Banco Bradesco’s offerings.

Recently, Banco Bradesco announced a trial for a new digital wallet and mobile finance app leveraging blockchain technology, developed by a domestic startup as part of their InovaBRA program. It’s gratifying to see aspects of the prototypes we conceptualized and supported come to fruition in real-world applications, demonstrating the impact of our collaborative research efforts. This trial not only underscores Banco Bradesco's commitment to innovative financial solutions but also highlights the bank's dedication to integrating cutting-edge technology for improved customer experiences.
